Eclipse Viewing #2!

I have a new shirt! Courtesy of Cafe Press and KG at iheartmythicalcreatures, this showed up in my mailbox yesterday afternoon!!
But more on that later.

Yesterday, folks, I met Starlit Violets! We had planned to get together for lunch and a second viewing of our community's current crack flick: Eclipse (of course). I don't know about SV, but I had so much fun!!! I got to the theater a little early (we were meeting at this super nice theater we both love - part of it is 21 & up only and you can order from your seat and drink booze during the movie (without hiding it!), and you know me - I love that. SV and I opted for the all ages section and HD screen, though). So, since I had time to kill, I brought out Edlet and T.Edlet (for anyone I haven't explained this to, his name is just a shortened version of Twilight Edlet).


I got the tickets, so we didn't have to worry about it later, and then SV picked me up for lunch! She is super cute in RL (just as she is online), as well as funny and sweet, and I had a great time getting to know her better over lunch, although it was a little surreal meeting one of you in RL, I have to say! But once I got over the initial shock of that, it was just fun hanging out with a new friend. I'm a little shy at first, so I'm sure I came off as socially retarded, but SV was nice enough to not say anything about that (thanks, bb!)!! ;)

The movie was great, of course. I still laughed out loud at the action figure posing of the Cullen clan in the forest. I still lurve Charlie as played by Billy Burke, and I still wish Victoria was Rachelle LeFevre. But I mostly just love that David Slade was able to get the romance and action both into this movie without sacrificing anything truly important. You know I missed certain things - you can read my original bullet-point-riffic review here if you missed that - but overall I'm happy with this movie. I can't wait to see what was cut on the DVD! I wish Summit would give us an option (as has been done on some DVDs) of reinserting deleted scenes.

We said goodbye, planning on getting together in RL again sometime (maybe with the hubses), and I drove home to find my prize from iheartmythicalcreatures!

So the new shirt was a big hit. Even TH thinks it's funny (although I think he's probably just glad it doesn't say, "I would leave my husband for Edward" or something).

Eclipse!

Alright, one week after the opening, here I am to share my thoughts on the newest movie! Don't blame me, Rob was taking his sweet time getting ready.
Keep in mind, I've only seen the movie once (so far) - Starlit Violets and I have a date this weekend to meet and see it again - but I think I paid enough attention (between sips of my cocktail) to be able to tell you what I thought. Honestly, I thought it was the best one so far. I felt like they kept the most important plot points, even if they did mess some things WAY up getting there (again, Bella gets on Jake's motorcycle right in front of Edward? So never happening). So let's discuss the high and low points.

I always like to start with the bad news first.

I missed the kidnapping part. You know, how Alice kidnaps Bella and she leaves the threatening voicemail for Edward, and THEN they make out and [cue the leg hitch] everything. I like that part and all the dialogue in there. I also like that this is when Rosalie tells her part of the story. It just seems better that way - Bella wouldn't ever follow Rose out onto the deck; she thinks Rose doesn't like her.

Jacob is a shrimp. The end. CGI that bastard.

I laughed out loud at both of these scenes:
There were two scenes like that - where the non-Edwardy Cullens stood in formation in coordinated outfits, and I burst out laughing both times. Hokey. Srsly. Maybe if they hadn't been so still and the shots so long, it would have been better - I get that they're vampires and can stand very still, but they looked like little action figure versions of themselves. It was just goofy.

Speaking of which, WTF is up with Esme's hair? Anyone? Why is it so much darker? Can anyone explain this??? It's baffling to me.

Alice. Poor, poor Alice. Look at your clothes in that picture up there. *sigh*

I was with my friend Mrs Fashion, and during this scene:
she leaned over to me and asked, "Isn't it kind of sunny out?" It did look awfully bright... just sayin'.

I'm undecided as to how I felt about Bella's final speech. I understand that it's kind of necessary because you get all that from her internal monologue in the books, more or less, without her saying it outright ever, but it seemed overwritten and overwrought. I also would have rather Edward flipped her over and tried to have sex with her right there, like in the book. Because: YUM.

This leads me to the good news.

The meadow scenes were HAWT.

*drool*

This was also the very first time (I kid you not) I noticed Edward's Culleny cuff, ... which he has apparently been wearing since Day One (see Exhibit A).

Also: most of the Edward/Bella scenes were great. They got their groove back, and I was SOOO HAPPY that they were laughing and smiling and joking - my very favorite parts of their relationship were finally included in the movies! Hallelujah!

Not a funny scene, but sweet and lovely...

I loved Jessica's graduation speech and the grad party (which looked like a real party, and I always had trouble picturing the one in the book).

I LOVED sarcastic Charlie. "There's a companion ticket? Super."

I love the quilt Renee gave Bella - whoever's idea that was, be warned: I'm stealing it. That would be an amazing gift. Loved that.

I loved the sex talk scene between Bella and Charlie - spot on, Rosenberg & co.

All of the battles were well done, I thought - as well done as ever, at least. I liked that Esme took some of Carlisle's lines about Bree.

Best line of the movie? Bella to Edward: "I want to tie you to me in every human way possible." Um, yeah she does. Go Bella!

"She always makes it dirty."

The only thing I truly missed?
Bryce Dallas Howard was fine. But Rachelle LeFevre just brought such a great quality to this role, and I want to stomp my little foot that they replaced her. This is Victoria's book! Her biggest moment! What a fucking rip off. Bryce came through, but I feel it would have been better with Rachelle.

I loved when Bella punched Jake in the face, and Emmett's reaction to that news.

I thought the flashbacks were well done. Rosalie should have also taken down her hairdresser, though, when she was on her murderous rampage. OME - that reminds me: bridal vengeance Rosalie, can I get that version of an action figure?

My favorite parts: the opening meadow scene, Riley's murder, the graduation, and the proposal scene.

So, there you have it. You know what I've decided, though? I need to look at the movies as a form of fan fiction. I love Twilight fan fiction, I don't mind when the story deviates (or is AH or AU or whatever), and if I think of the movies that way, perhaps I can let go of my need for the books to be translated perfectly onto celluloid (which, let's face it, is never going to happen). So, I'm giving that a try.

Spoiler-Free : My Eclipse Night

OK, so since Starlit Violets went to see Eclipse this morning, as far as I know everyone has seen it now, right? If you haven't, no worries - there are no spoilers here.

When I got home on Friday, this was waiting for me, courtesy of my thoughtful hubs:

I don't like gum, but let's not remind him. I carry it in my purse because I like to be prepared. And now I have a Twilight-related pack! Yay!

So I hoovered some dinner and ran out the door to meet my friend, Mrs Fashion, for our movie date. Mrs Fashion also likes to be prepared, so she picked up a little something for our movie watching pleasure that I will show you in a moment. We got to the theatre way early (there was really no reason for us to be there as early as we were, since the theatre wasn't even full once we got into it, but whatever), and got our snacks. Here is Edlet, posing with our junk food:
Once we got into the theatre and sat down, we stealthily added Mrs Fashion's genius contribution to our sodas:

Yes, that's a pint of rum in my purse. Good thing I carry a big bag.

We were the envy of a nice lady sitting three seats from me, and although we offered to share if she got herself a soda, she didn't take us up on it. And with those behemoth sodas, Mrs Fashion had to pee during the story of the Third Wife, anyway, so maybe the lady down from me made the right choice.

Then, the movie. It was great, right? More on that later.

After the movie, we took Edlet for post-func drinks. I think he'd been tippling on the sly in my purse during the movie, because he was up to some very un-Edlet-like antics:

Those were the two photos I was allowed to take before Mrs Fashion got embarrassed and made me put Edlet back in my purse.

All in all, it was a great night! I get to see the movie again next weekend with Starlit Violets - this will be my first time meeting any of you in person, and I'm very excited! I will post tomorrow about my actual thoughts on the movie. Happy Fourth of July, everyone!

Sunday Comedy - Eclipse style (no spoilers)

This shit almost made me cry, it's so funny.

Thirsty Thursday - Pre-Eclipse Party!

Alright, hands up: who's excited that Eclipse is less than a week away??? (I'm seeing it Friday the 2nd, so not for me, but for the rest of the world!) You say you're excited??? I'll drink to that! It is time for the pre-Eclipse party at my place, and you are all invited!

Now, as I'm sure you remember from our younger days, all good parties start with a shot. Maybe everyone didn't spend part of their twenties in a Palace by a Porn Store with a full bar in the basement, so if you didn't, let me show you how we party 'round these parts. I present to you the perfect Eclipse kickoff shot (IMO): The Bonfire.

You read that right: we're gonna set this bitch aflame!

Ingredient Roll-Call:

"Present and accounted for!" ~ Edlet

1/2 oz Grenadine

1/2 oz Amaretto

1/2 oz 151-proof Rum

Now, to construct this drink, I used TH's pour-slowly-over-the-back-of-a-spoon tip for the second and third layers. Sadly, I don't have a pic, because I was home alone, and even I am not that photographically talented. Also, I've yet to teach Edlet how to work the camera. So, visit this post to see the technique.

Edlet does NOT want to watch this. This is where I set fire to the top layer of 151.

Success! My shot is flaming!

After allowing it to burn for a few seconds, I blew it out, took the shot, spilled half of it down my front (I'm not good at taking shots), and celebrated!

Edlet was happy I survived. I think he's pretty sure TH would have thrown him out if I had burned the house down (in the event he had managed to escape the inferno).

The shot was yummy. The top was warm and the bottom (the Grenadine layer) was cold, probably because I keep the Grenadine in the fridge. So it was interesting in terms of temperature. The combination of rum, amaretto, and grenadine was delicious, too - the rum really cut the sweetness of the other two, but the aftertaste was nice because of that sweetness. And once I washed my face and throat and changed my shirt, I was no longer sticky. Win!

Alright, so now we've got a nice little buzz going, a little rush from the danger of the flames, and no one told us a depressing-yet-oddly-inspiring story about how we should try to kill ourselves to save our loved ones, so let's keep drinking!

In honor of the Volturi presence in Eclipse, I give you: Felix's Feast.

Yes, I mixed Irish Creams. I needed, like, half a glass!

Edlet wanted to keep an eye on anything having to do with Felix. So he watched me fill the rest of the glass with chocolate milk.

Yumyumyum. Oh, Felix, how I underestimated you. Of course, this drink does sneak up on you and overtake your senses, so maybe it has more in common with Felix than I initially thought! It is as delicious as you would expect: chocolatey and Irish creamy and nomnomnommmy.

OK, since we're celebrating the THIRD film in the series this week, we need a THIRD drink! (And how I wish I had a drink called the THIRD wife... oh well.) I know I don't often post anything for you Team Jacob folks, and that is about to change. I give you: Wolf (Howlin').

Edlet was not happy about this choice, but helped out lining up the ingredients, nonetheless.

*grumble* ~ Edlet

1/2 oz Vodka

1/2 oz white Creme de Menthe

1 oz Blue Curacao

Pour spirits into a glass...

...add ice...

...fill with Sprite (I'm using 7-Up - I hate that new Sprite commercial where the guy explodes).

The instructions say the prefer serving with a blue cherry. Um, yuck. No thanks.

Edlet continued to keep his eye on this drink, saying he doesn't trust the wolves. It didn't attack me or try to rape me, though, so he was okay in the end.

This drink is kind of a fail, but you'll see why I have to put "kind of" in a minute. It tasted like fizzy mouthwash. This is why they don't make mint sodas. Oh, wait, they DO. I've never tried that one, but I'm not wowed by this one. However, it got me intoxicated to the point that I accidentally took a thumbs-up photo.

So I guess I didn't mind the taste that much. Or maybe I'm just so dedicated to these posts and finishing the drinks so I can give you a fully realized review that my judgment has been impaired by all the drinking. No? Alright, you know as well as I do that anything is pretty good after you've had a few.

Yeah, Rob knows what I'm talking about...

To finish up our little party, Edlet has a suggestion:

"Movie and candy marathon?"
Why, yes, Edlet (and, hello, Charlie the Kitty), don't mind if I do.
